Zapanta hauls awards in Thursday Night League

Zapanta Raymond Zapanta ran away with the most awards in the 32nd season of the Philippine Bowling Association-Capital Bowling Center Thursday Night League.

The Century Insurance bowler prevailed in the high series scratch, high series with handicap, and high series average and won the Most Improved Player plum. Zapanta recorded 674 pinfalls in the high series scratch to beat Dial Recharge’s Raymond Angeles, who tallied only 664 pinfalls.

In the high series handicap, Zapanta posted 713 for a four-pinfall lead over Angeles (709) and then in the high average category the former logged 196.94, beating the 186 of teammate Simon Manacop. Zapanta, who had a 3 handicap, totaled 10,044 pinfalls in 51 games.

In the high game scratch, Angeles redeemed himself against Raymond Angeles and two others. Angeles had 276 pinfalls to edge Raymond and Raphael Zapanta and teammate Raul Dumapit, who were tied for second with similar scores of 256 pinfalls.

Angeles notched his second individual award when he ruled the high game with handicap, posting 300 pinfalls against Dumapit’s 283.

In the women’s division, Elena Soll of The Company VI and San Jose Court’s Gloria Omechelang took two awards each, while Toshiba’s Malou Cabigao gained one.

Soll topped the high game scratch, tallying 222 against the 209 of Omechelang and then carded 265 pinfalls in the high game handicap to prevail over the 253 of Cabigao and Angie Ito of JT’s Team.

Omechelang owned the best high series scratch score of 573 and she outclassed the 556 of Ocho’s Gina Sablan. In the high series handicap, Cabigao registered 667, four more pinfalls ahead of Omechelang’s 663.

Omechelang went on to take her third plum of the night in a brief awards ceremony at CBC last Thursday when she reigned supreme in the high average race with her 157.47.

Completing the list of awardees was Ito, who was named Most Improved Player in the women’s division.
