Yvonne Bennett lands role in indie film
Micronesia’s sprint queen, Yvonne Bennett, will have a minor role in the indie film Twice a Dream that is expected to be released in June next year.
Bennett, in a letter to her parents, said that she landed the role after auditioning for the part of Monique in two scenes of the film.
“I wanted to find some kind of work for acting and modeling. As I was searching I came across a post for an audition for a film in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the audition date was at the time that I will be in Utah to manage a store temporarily. So I responded to the online post, confirmed my audition time, then started practicing my sides for the audition,” Bennett said.
Bennett and her twin sister, Yvette, both manage outlets for the national store chain Abercrombie & Fitch.
According to Bennett, she was the first one to be seen at the audition.
“I auditioned for the part of Monique. I had two scenes to do in my audition. First one was at a gathering with friends and the second was a dramatic scene. I did the dramatic scene (confronting my dead best friend’s boyfriend about hitting on her sister in front of her grave) a second time, and brought more energy and feeling to it—which I believed was what secured the part for me. Because it was a great audition and I left the audition thinking just that,” she said.
About a week and a half later, Bennett received an email from the casting director saying they loved her audition as Monique, and would like to offer her the part.
“I immediately responded stating my interest and thanked her as well. Currently I am just waiting for all the details about shoot dates and other things. But I will be shooting for about five days for my role as Monique in Salt Lake City,” she said.
The movie is expected to be released on June 2, 2015.
Ambrose Bennett and Lillian Bennett, parents of Yvonne, are proud of their daughter for acing the audition.
“We are so glad for her and hopefully some of our youth in the CNMI will be inspired by Yvonne,” Ambrose Bennett said.
Yvette Bennett, twin sister of Yvonne, won both Miss Idaho USA & Miss Idaho International titles and Shequita Bennett—their oldest sister—is a former Miss Marianas Universe and now a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.
