The final distributions for the Super Typhoon Yutu relief efforts concluded last Saturday at the Garapan Fishing Base.
The CNMI government along with members of the Lady Diann Torres Foundation over last Friday and Saturday distributed an assortment of items in response to Super Typhoon Yutu’s ravage on Saipan and Tinian late October 2018.
“…We have all kinds of stuff for distributon,” Department of Community and Cultural Affairs Secretary Robert Hunter said in an interview. He noted that Meals Ready-to-Eat, mosquito nets, cooking utensils, cooking pots and pans, restroom kits, bariatric cots, first aid kits, two 10-liter water containers, baby wipes, and baby formula were among the supplies distributed Friday.
“Some of the biggest requests that we get are for cookware,” Hunter said. “…It is much needed,” he continued. Hunter headed the operation for the two days of distribution at the Garapan Fishing Base.
The following day, the Lady Diann Torres Foundation distributed goods from their latest shipment from Las Vegas, Nevada, alongside the remaining supplies for distribution from the CNMI government.
“…This is our third shipment stateside. I believe we have one more container coming in, and we would schedule another distribution for that,” Foundation program coordinator Claudia Flores told Saipan Tribune. She added that it has yet to be confirmed and it is still unknown whether the upcoming shipment is the last for their relief distribution efforts for Super Typhoon Yutu.
The distributions lasted from 9am to 5pm at the Garapan Fishing Base for both Friday and Saturday, and were done through a drive-through at the venue.
