Yuko rules Club Lao golf tournament
Yuko Togawa was named Club Lao champion after beating men’s division winner J.J. Atalig in a match play during the 2016 Club Lao Charity Golf Tournament held late last month at the Laolao Bay Golf and Resort.
Togawa took the club championship as she went 2-up against Atalig in the finale last Oct. 30 on the east course of the Kagman facility. Togawa also ruled the women’s division match play, besting seven other players.
The daughter of veteran golfer Noriko Togawa moved two wins away from topping the women’s field after eliminating Sherlyn Jones, 3-2, last Oct. 29 on the east course. Yuko then moved to the west course to play Yong Sook Kwon, who downed Sun Sook Kim in the other pairing 1-up. Yuko prevailed anew, 2-up to arrange a title showdown against Yuri Kim.
Yuri advanced to the finals after ousting Shiori Onoue, 6-5, and Young Im Jeon, 6-5. Jeon earlier defeated Mi Na Park, 3-2, to set a semis tiff against Yuri, who eventually lost to Yuko in the finals on the east course, 3-4.
Over on the west course, Atalig edged Feng Chun Jin in the men’s division finals, 1-up. Atalig gained the finals entry after knocking off Joon Hoon Park, 4-3, and Harry Nakamura, 3-2, in the lower half of the bracket.
At the upper half, Jin barged into the finals following his victories over Eric Mandell, 7-6, and Dong Young Lee, 1-up. Lee moved into the semis after booting out Seung Woo Kang, 3-2, while Nakamura made it to the Final Four with his 3-2 triumph against Freddie Cataluna.
