Youth league opening pushed back to March 11

The opening of the Frank M. Diaz Memorial Youth League has been moved to March 11.

Mariana Islands Basketball Federation’s Elias Rangamar said in a brief interview with Saipan Tribune last Saturday said they still need to fix the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium and wait for the team uniforms before they could open the youth caging, which was originally set to kick off today. He added that representatives of teams are requested to attend a meeting tomorrow at 5pm to discuss details of the new opening day and other requirements, such as entrance fees and waivers.

The youth league, which is being held for the first time in honor of the late Frank M. Diaz, will have 17 teams spread into two division. The U15 division has the Ol’s Aces 1 and 2, Kagman Risers, NMI Rollers, Kanaka 4, Chalan Kanoa Saints, and 670 Sonics, while the U18 cast is composed of NMI Rollers Blue, White and Red, 670 Sonics and Junior Sonics, Kagman Risers, Ol’Aces 1and 2, and Tanapag.

Meanwhile, two adult leagues will also open next month at the Ada gym.

First up is the Inter-Government/Business League which will kick off on March 14 with 15 teams vying for the championship.

The participating squads are NMSA Spartans, CUC, DFEMS Kumason, DPS, GPPC, CHCC, PIC, DEQ, Feds, MJD Enterprises, CPA, Docomo, DFS, Customs, and Best Sunshine International.

Representatives of the 15 teams are asked to attend a meeting this Wednesday at 5pm at the conference room of the Ada gym. Entrance fees, waivers, and rosters are also due at the meeting.

The Men’s Island-Wide Basketball League also has a meeting this Wednesday at 6pm with topics to be discussed includes the opening on March 15.

Ten teams are entered in the league with MJD Enterprises leading the field. Completing the roster are NMI Rollers, Hoops, Ol’Aces, Run N’ Gun, 670 Sonics, Runnin’ Rebels, Ali’i Blue Haus, Kagman Risers, and GMJ/IKKI Wholesale.
