Youth futsal league lures 12 teams

(Roselyn B. Monroyo) The Saipan Soccer School opened the 2011 Youth Futsal League yesterday at the TSL Sports Complex with 12 teams participating in the inaugural competition.

Team Konflikt and Shirley’s Boys played in the first game in the league last night with the former bannered by players of the MP United Silver U15 squad and coached by Norman Del Rosario. Fradel Sedillo calls the shot for Shirley’s Boys, which is composed of strikers the club fielded in the recently concluded NMIFA fall league.

Results of the U15 match were unavailable at press time. Two more teams are entered in the boys U15 division with We-D-Fly debuting in the league tomorrow against Konflikt at 3pm. Astig Futsal completes the field and it will play its first game this Sunday against Shirley’s Boys at 5:30pm.

In the boys U18 division, the Thundercats were scheduled to square off against IT&E at 7:30pm yesterday. Paire players are suiting up for the Thundercats, while IT&E will be leaning on MP United U18 strikers.

Joining the Thundercats and IT&E in the U18 field are the Mean Machine and Team 4, which will collide this Saturday at 5:30pm.

The girls U17 division also has four squads in Go Green Team, Ayuyu, Astig Girls, and Team 4. Go Green Team and Astig Girls will duel this Saturday at 4pm, while Ayuyu will take on Team 4 at 6:30pm.

Games in the youth futsal league will be played every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Only two matches are scheduled on weekdays, while four games are set every weekend. Each match will be played for 40 minutes (20-minute halves) with a five-minute break.
