The announcement came as a surprise to Yamagata. “I was really surprised when I tore open the mail and read that I got accepted,” she said. “I was not expecting it at all.”

Her mother, Arlene, who is an AlumKnight herself who graduated class valedictorian in 1990, was also surprised. “Brittany’s acceptance into Sigma Alpha Lambda is just one of the many things she continues to delightfully surprise us with. It makes me happy when my children work hard and do their very best.”

School president Galvin Deleon Guerrero is very proud of Yamagata. As he put it, “She did fantastic things as a student here at the school, but did not stop there. With this accomplishment, she is part of a legacy of AlumKnights who continue to distinguish themselves with the knowledge, skills, and values that were instilled in them here at Mount Carmel School.”

Yamagata credits her alma mater for helping her get to where she is now. “I’m grateful to MCS for helping me understand and appreciate the importance of a persistent work ethic and forming my Catholic values that give me encouragement in my life.”

While at Mount Carmel, Yamagata was inducted into Sacred Chapter of the National Honor Society and was active in the school’s Theatre Club. (MCS)
