WWII ordnance blast in Marpi today

The HydroGeologic Munitions Team will be detonating World War II-era live ordnance at the Marpi Blow Pit on Saipan today, Nov. 17, between the hours of 10am and 4pm. This means there will be no access to the Marpi Landfill, Banzai Cliff, Suicide Cliff, and Grotto while this activity is ongoing.

In a notice yesterday from the CNMI Emergency Operation Center-State Warning Point, it said the
location of this activity will be at Marpi Blow Pit within 500 feet radius on all quadrants to 2,500 feet above sea level. The Marpi Road will be closed from 10am to 4pm for the duration of this operation.

Due to the danger imposed by these activities, the public are urged to stay away from these areas during the time and dates indicated.
