Wushin Express cruised to its second win after dominating Saipan Boys, 86-74, during their game in the 2011 DLX Basketball Invitational Friendship League last Monday night at the Gualo Rai Basketball Court.
Wushin capitalized on Saipan Boys’ depleted crew at the start of the match to establish a comfortable lead and protected the double-digit advantage in the next three quarters en route to the 12-point victory.
Saipan Boys had only seven players in the first half and by the time two more came in the second half, Wushin was already in full control of the match, handing its foes its third loss in as many games.
Junar Guiab paced Wushin with 24 points, Jun Tabora added 13, and Roderick Tibayan and Edwin Santos chipped in 13 and 11, respectively.
Guiab drilled 10 of his total points in the opening period, as no Saipan Boys player was beefed enough to push the Wushin forward out of the paint. Tabora contributed seven in the first, walking away with fastbreak layups for Wushin’s 23-15 advantage.
The lead started to go up to twin digits in the second quarter, as Saipan Boys kept on allowing Wushin easy baskets.
Art Salazar top-scored for the losing squad with 18, while Angelo Hernaez logged 12.
Blue Haus 73, 8th Division 64
Blue Haus also recorded its second win after outclassing 8th Division in the curtain raiser last Monday night.
Badong Camacho fired seven of his 13 points in the fourth quarter to lift Blue Haus to the nine-point win.
Blue Haus and 8th Division were in a deadlock after the third canto, 51-all, but the former saved the win after getting crucial baskets from Camacho and four others. Blue Haus outscored 8th Division in the final canto, 22-13, returning the favor to the latter after the former was neutralized in the third frame.
8th Division managed to even up the match entering the fourth quarter despite falling behind at halftime, 31-38, following a 20-point output in the third frame. Kae Bernardo led the rally in the third with his eight points, just five less than Blue Haus’ total output in that period.
In the fourth quarter, Bernardo was held to one field goal and only two 8th Division players scored more than two field goal apiece, dropping the team’s record to 1-3.
