World University vet wants to introduce archery
The Olympic sport of archery may soon be played in the CNMI as former collegiate archer Rachel Bouchillon aims to teach the basics to anyone interested.

Bouchillon, who is new on Saipan, attended last night’s Northern Marianas Sports Association monthly meeting where she introduced herself to the members.
She said that she bought her old equipment when she arrived on Saipan and she wanted to start a program.
“I’m still new here on the island. I’m still trying to get a feel of everything. But I am interested in starting a program,” said Bouchillon, who works at the Coastal Resource Management.
She represented Team USA in last year’s World University Archery Championships in Legnica, Poland, where she competed against top archers in the recurve event.
“I was selected for Team USA in last year’s World University Championships. We are 12 in the team with three men’s and women’s in the compound and recurve events,” added the University of Florida alum.
“Anyone who wants to learn archery, I am willing to share my skills and knowledge. I’m already thinking on how to get more equipment. Like get a grant or something,” said Bouchillon.
NMSA president Mike White welcomed Bouchillon and advised her to attend the monthly meetings, set up a federation, and become a member of the CNMI sports governing body.
He also informed her that she should get in touch with Pacific Islands Club Sports, Entertainment, and Activities director Glenn Policare if ever she wanted to have a temporary training facility.
PIC has an archery range but it is used mostly for recreation by hotel guests. The facility, however, was damaged during Typhoon Soudelor.
