‘No working fire hydrant at area of house fire’

There was no working fire hydrant in the area in Dandan where a fire razed a house on Monday morning, according to Department of Public Safety Fire Division spokesperson Jocelyn Alvarez yesterday.

Alvarez said an Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighter Tanker Unit also responded to the scene to assist with water relay and additional water needs as there was no working hydrant in the area.

Alvarez said DPS police and fire personnel were dispatched to the area after a male caller indicated that his residence was on fire at 11:12am.

She said Forestry I Engine was the first to arrive at the scene at 11:23pm, followed by DPS Fire Division Engine No. 2.

Alvarez said upon arrival, firefighters confirmed that the residence was fully engulfed in flames and most of the structure had already collapsed.

Alvarez said firefighters fully suppressed the fire by 12:03pm.

She said one of the four occupants of the house was treated on scene by medics for a breathing related issue, but subsequently refused to be brought to the Commonwealth Health Center.

Alvarez said the cause of the fire is believed to be electrical in nature.

The residents—a 70-year-old man and his two children—who were all at the house when the fire broke out were not injured after they managed to run outside. The mother was in the neighbor’s house when the fire happened.

An explosion from an electric panel box located in one of the rooms in the house reportedly triggered the fire that razed the structure made of light materials.
