Go Eun Woo emerged triumphant in two events in the women’s division of the 11th Annual International Point Break Open held last Saturday at the flowrider facility of the Pacific Islands Club-Saipan in San Antonio.
Woo ruled the women’s pro and open bodyboard events in contrasting fashion to become the best competitor in the annual tournament that attracted amateur and veteran bodyboarders. She won in another close contest in the pro bodyboard category that had the competitors separated by less than two points. Woo tallied 46 points to edge Jaya Yun, who ended up with 45 markers, while Bo Young Jun scored 43.5 points to finish third.
The Korean then added the open bodyboard title to her achievements after beating closest pursuer Hyuna Cho by four points, 45-41. Kyung Min Kim came in third with 40 markers, while Kyung Ae Park rounded up the participants with 37.5 points.
In other results, Yun was again unsuccessful in the women’s flowboard with Morgan Moon foiling the former’s bid to win at least one title. Moon garnered 38.5 points from the judges against Yun’s 24.
Jun, after placing third in the pro bodyboard, won the Masters division as she bested Duckhwa Lee in their one-on-one faceoff. She collected 33 points, while Lee came up with 27.5.
Brittany Orchard went home with the women’s intermediate bodyboard championship after besting four other competitors. She defeated Hyuna Cho in the finals, 45.5-43. Orchard was the top seed after the rankings and met Kyung Min Kim with the finals berth at stake. She defeated Kim, 45-37.5 to secure a spot in the title match.
Cho ousted second-ranked Kyung Ae Park, 42-35.5, to earn the right of facing Orchard in the finals.
Park clinched third place after pulling off a 35-32 decision over Kim, who scored a 36-24.5 win over Christie Boll in her first battle.
Tsunami Saipan swimmer Isaiah Aleksenko won the grometts under-11 bodyboard, a coed event after beating Ji Yong Lim, 50-42. His other wins were against Alex Minseok Kim, 49-5-33.5, and Ace Cho (disqualified).
Lim drew a bye in the elimination round and defeated Sophia Herras in the semifinals, 40.5-26.5.
Heras eliminated Andy Minsu Kim, 29.5-20.5, while Alex Minseok Kim needed another round to beat Scott Woochan Cho, 17.5-13.5. Alex Minseok Kim and Cho ended up tied at 16 in their first run.
