Won Pat introduces bill to allow education board to share legal counsel

HAGÅTÑA, Guam—Having operated without legal counsel for a number of years, the members of Guam Commission for Educator Certification (GCEC) and Guam Academy Charter Schools Council appealed to Speaker Judith Won Pat to support efforts to acquire legal services.

Taking an alternative cost-savings approach, Won Pat intends to introduce a new amendment that allows Guam Education Board’s Legal Counsel to provide legal and investigatory services to both GCEC and Guam Academy Charter Schools Council. Given the part-time nature of the services, this approach would allow GovGuam to avoid spending additional money in procuring separate attorneys for these entities. According to Won Pat, “This is a cost-efficient effort to maximize the resources that are available to us.”

Won Pat will be introducing the amendment under miscellaneous provisions. (PR)
