The Women’s Affairs Office under the Office of the Governor is hosting a Dress for Success event on Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, from 9am to 1pm at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe to assist women in preparing for their dream job or career advancement.

According to Shirley Camacho-Ogumoro, special assistant for Women’s Affairs, women will be given the opportunity to learn from experts, join mini-workshops and participate in activities from various agencies, organizations and employers in the CNMI.

“The mission is to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, education, professional attire or accessories and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Our theme is ‘Na’i Animu Famalao’an, Schoobwut aw aschoscho’ which means to ‘Give it your best, ladies.’ This will be a fun event, and we have received feedback from many women who have already registered and are very excited,” Camacho-Ogumoro said.

Gov. Ralph DLG Torres said the event will assist with the overall goal of achieving parity for women seeking employment for the first time and women looking to advance their careers.

“As a father of six, two of [whom] are girls, activities like these help build confidence and provide skills for future career goals and dream jobs. While this is only a portion of programs available to our community, we hope that this reaches those who need it the most,” Torres said.

Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios said he looks toward continued implementation of policies and programs in the government and private sector to help women achieve social, political and economic parity, as mandated by the CNMI Constitution.

“We thank all our stakeholders from WAO, the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library, the Saipan Chamber of Commerce, the Northern Marianas College, as well as [the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs’] childcare services for making this event possible. Our goal is for this to become a signature event for the professional women in our community and those looking to break the glass ceiling,” Palacios said.

The event is limited to 100 participants and registration forms can be picked up at the CNMI Women’s Affairs Office on Capitol Hill, Building No. 1346.

All participants will receive a chance to pick a free new or gently used smart business outfit or accessory.
