Woman suffers multiple injuries in domestic violence
2 minor daughters were crying, scared and nervous
A woman suffered multiple injuries when her boyfriend allegedly beat her up by slapping, punching, and kicking her in front of her two minor daughters during their argument at her apartment unit on Saipan last week. He also allegedly slapped one of the two girls on the face for trying to stop him from beating her mother.
When a police officer responded to the apartment, he observed the two girls, ages 10 and 12 years old, crying and appeared scared and nervous.
Eric Lee Nekaifes, 38, was arrested that same night on charges of assault and battery, disturbing the peace, interfering with a domestic violence report, and child abuse.
The girlfriend suffered bruises on the shins and thighs, scratches on the left knee, black eyes, and a small cut to the lower lip. The 10-year-old girl had no visible injuries on the forehead, police said.
At a hearing on Friday, Superior Court Associate Judge Teresa Kim-Tenorio imposed a $10,000 cash bail on Nekaifes and set the preliminary hearing for July 7 at 9am.
Assistant public defender Tillman Clark was appointed as counsel for Nekaifes. Assistant attorney general Chester Hinds appeared for the government.
Police Detective Peter A. Aldan stated in his report that Nekaifes slapped a lighted cigarette out of his girlfriend’s left hand while she and her two daughters were in the living room on Wednesday night.
The report did not indicate whether the minors are biological daughters of Nekaifes.
An argument ensued and the girlfriend told Nekaifes to get out of her apartment. He then allegedly slapped her twice with his open left palm on the face.
The girlfriend got up from the couch and attempted to use the phone by the bedroom to call the police, but he prevented her by pushing her back.
The 10-year-old daughter went close to her mother and shouted at Nekaifes to stop slapping her mother. Nekaifes, however, allegedly slapped the girl’s face.
Nekaifes then slapped his girlfriend, causing her head to bump the 10-year-old daughter’s forehead. The girl got scared, ran out of the house, and proceeded to walk across the street, where she asked their neighbor to call the police.
Nekaifes allegedly continued the beating of the victim by grabbing her in a headlock and repeatedly punching her on the face. At one point, he tried to bang the girlfriend’s head on the floor.
The girlfriend managed to get free from the headlock, but Nekaifes started kicking her on the legs. The girlfriend was able to escape by walking out to the back of the house.
