Woman gets 13-day prison sentence for beating boy
A woman who beat up an 8-year-old boy and left him outside the former La Fiesta Mall in San Roque was sentenced to 13 days in prison.
At a change of plea hearing on Wednesday, Kaylynn Hebron Deleon Guerrero, 27, pleaded guilty to assault and battery (domestic violence) and was sentenced to the maximum of one-year imprisonment, all suspended except for 13 days. She was given credit for 13 days of time served. That means she’s already out of prison.
Deleon Guerrero was placed on supervised probation for three years and ordered to pay a $500 fine.
She was required to undergo anger management and made to attend 19 sessions on common sense parenting. For the first two years, she is not allowed any contact with the boy, except for scheduled visits, in the presence of a Division of Youth Services agent.
Deleon Guerrero was also ordered to complete 300 hours of community service. She is prohibited from drinking alcohol during her probation.
Deleon Guerrero was originally charged with assault and battery (domestic violence) and child abuse or neglect. The offenses carry a total maximum sentence of six years in prison.
Last Wednesday, the Office of the Attorney General amended the charges to assault and battery (domestic violence). That carries a maximum prison time of one year.
Deleon Guerrero and counsel assistant public defender Cindy Nesbit signed a plea deal.
Assistant attorney general Betsy Weintraub appeared for the government.
Police said Deleon Guerrero repeatedly slapped the boy on the face and punched his stomach on April 10, 2017, causing bruising around the eye.
Police officers learned that last April 10, the boy rode a bus from school to a bus stop in Kagman 2, where Deleon Guerrero picked him up. On their way to San Roque, Deleon Guerrero got mad after noticing that the boy was sweating. She beat up the boy and stopped the car at the former La Fiesta Mall, told him to get down, and drove off, leaving him alone. (Ferdie de la Torre)
