A woman allegedly hit her husband with a chair at their apartment unit in Garapan early Monday morning after accusing him of having an affair.

Police said the couple’s 11-year-old son, who witnessed the incident, was crying as he was talking to a responding police officer.

The victim’s left shoulder was bruised and he complained of pain, police said.

Ayumu Sakurada Yanai, 33, was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace. Her bail was kept at $6,250 cash.

Police detective Isapen Bokuku stated in her report that Yanai had been drinking while the victim and his children were sleeping in the bedroom. Around 1am, Yanai confronted her husband and accused him of having a girlfriend.

The couple went to the living room where their argument escalated. Yanai allegedly started punching her husband in the chest. Yanai then allegedly hit the husband with an unknown object, causing him to fall to the floor. While on the floor, she allegedly hit him with a chair on the left shoulder.

The couple’s 11-year-old son, who was awakened by the noise, got out of the bedroom and saw his mother hitting his father with the chair.

Police learned that it was not the first time that the couple engaged in domestic violence.
