Wildboyz edges Marianas Water in Tuesday League
The 9 Eleven Wildboyz scored a come-from-behind 8-7 win over sister team Marianas Water in last week’s Saipan Billiards Association Budweiser Open 8-Ball Tuesday League.
Ray Matsunaga and Randy Sablan delivered for the Wildboyz in the final game to improve their win-loss record to 59-32 and shadow the league-leading Amari’s IT&E Destroyers (62-29). Marianas Water, despite the slim loss, remains at third with a 58-33 slate, followed closely by the 57-34 record of Brannon’s Docomo Hustlers. The 9 Eleven Str8 Black Ball (51-40), Tasha’s The Masters Touch (45-46) and Brannon’s 670 Builders (32-59) complete the standings.
In the Wildboyz-Marianas Water game, the latter was enjoying a 4-1 lead and seemed pretty much in control of their race-to-eight match. The Wildboyz, however, won three straight with Sablan scoring a victory over Roel Barreto in the Singles 8 Ball then teaming up with Pat Cepeda in beating the duo of Jerry Soriano and Marvin Deocares in the Partners side.
Bill Cepeda defeated Cecilio Bisana in the other Singles 8 Ball match for the Wildboyz’s other victory. The opposing teams then split the next four games, leaving the final Partners 8-Ball as the deciding match. That was when Matsunaga and Sablan delivered for the Wildboyz, as they topped Soriano and Deocares to seal the win.
In other games, the Hustlers escaped with an 8-5 win over the Builders, while the Destroyers coasted to an 11-2 victory against the Masters Touch.
Meanwhile, no games were held in the Thursday League in observance of Maundy Thursday.
