Wholesale of principle

It isn’t surprising the quick rollover of two unsuccessful gubernatorial candidates giving up principle in favor of “principal,” whatever the latter may be.

They ran for change but ignored it altogether, selling heart, mind and soul to the highest bidder. Woe! Simply failed twice: didn’t spray clean sparkling water on the corrosive economic conditions at home they hoped to improve and decided to become part of the ill wind that threatens to eat away at every indigenous spirit to live freely on these isles.

Juan N. Babauta did his legendary “darn good” disappearing act, replicating what he did four years ago—jumped fence. Remember when he followed impeached former governor Benigno R. Fitial? He’s now in Inos’ camp, the very administration that axed him from his CHC job recently.

So much for his fully polished superficial demeanor of integrity. I suppose it’s perfectly fine for him to sully his dignity, confirming failed leadership against our people when he was at the helm. Like the trail of snails, it shows his forever damaged term against the multitude. Thus the vote against his candidacy. The people simply rejected him for the third time! Pretty darn strange sensation, yeah?

Edward Guerrero also got up with his shirt and left the crowd that followed him through thick and thin. Mind-numbing that as a Democrat he now supports a Republican. But then he’s finally shown his true colors—octopus tendencies—shifting shades and hue depending upon conditions.

He was a Democrat, then a Republican, until Nov. 4th a Democrat, today a staunch Republican once more. Woe! In both cases, what happens to the flock they completely abandoned? There’s such a thing as mindfulness of the folks who stood by your side through it all. Guerrero’s disappearing act is nowhere near one of mindfulness.

Did you forget the old saying that you’re only as good as your word?—finu` lahe—showing integrity with real coconuts? Ahe`, ti nagao na niyok este, okay?

So the two rejects have decided to participate in the sale of our indigenous people for 40 silvers! It’s an inglorious ending to political careers sailing permanently into the sunset.

It’s a perfect view of their lack of understanding and clarity what entails leadership. Both had “followership” as their strength, nothing else! Which reminds me of Napoleon’s description of wrongful political warfare: “In politics, stupidity is not a handicap.”

Of unrelenting greed

Appalling the obvious reckless disregard of the governor’s health. The architects of greed are tiptoeing through his illness ready to yank the top post if he expires. Woe!

But everybody’s in denial, including Inos’ inner circle. Such denial is to keep the public in the dark, hoping we’re convinced Inos is still healthy to govern. Gee! Why the persistent lies? Isn’t this factually a negative scheme against “we the people?”

One admires Best Sunshine’s and the GOP’s donation of $635 to CUC customers a day before the election. Do these people understand that we still have our indigenous dignity? Nice shot at condescension!

Our freedom
The runoff is about deciding to latch onto our rights as indigenous people to declare, “We are free” by rejecting the fatal and silent message “You are slaves” from the casino cabal. Let’s teach this morally bankrupt administration that we treasure our “freedom.”

Let’s join hands and celebrate with joy the factual reality that each of us is born with inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness by embracing the idea to peacefully topple the modern era’s most powerful tyrant—Casino Boys—and all its loyal cronies!

Watching our neighbors
I’d page through the Wall Street Journal (Asian edition) to see how China’s reforms have come along amidst shifts in the conduct of business wrought by information technology. She’s done superbly well, though in terms of firepower at sea with nuclear-powered submarines strategically situated around the globe.

Troubling what happens when real war in this area breaks out. But this fear is quelled by the thought that her economic relations with our country should normalize geopolitical misgivings. How does it survive if she can’t move her products to the west?

But what if the two economic giants see a slide in their annual productivity or investments? It instantly translates into business folks guarding their income and staying closer to home. It means our tourism industry would be adversely affected in terms of number of visitors from both China and Japan. It makes sense reading what’s coming down the pike before we are caught in a tsunami of ignorance.

As the self-appointed armchair investments boss of Asia and the Pacific, I’d salivate at opportunities headed to countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines moving out of Japan and China or two economic giants. What do they have that we don’t?

It’s everything within the realm of conventional and non-conventional definition of basic infrastructure. For instance, we wanted casino. The most vital “infrastructure” other than the conventional water, power and sewer is local wealthy people to support the industry when visitors from without take a decline. Making sense? Do we have this infrastructure or is it only a pipe dream?

Moreover, a good percentage of their people are highly educated. So it has the professional wherewithal (brilliant ones at the apex) to move things beyond the political realm. What percentage of the local population here is college-educated or products of highly respected secondary technical schools? Do you hear what I hear and are we on the same page on this issue?

Let’s reboot and start and stay focused on the education of our people! It’s the only sure ticket to success. Without an educated cadre of people at the top, middle and civic-minded broad base folks in the community, we’d be singing White Christmas when everything around us is green.
