Northern Marianas Sports Association president Mike White is encouraging all federations to have their college-age members consider joining next year’s volunteer program in the World University Championships.

White sent an email to all NMSA member federations where he forwarded the message sent to him by International University Sports Federation secretary general and chief executive officer Eric Saintrond.

“The volunteer program looks great and should interest members of your federations who are college-age students,” said White in the email.

White added that interested volunteers would only shoulder the transportation cost to the country where the FISU WUC’s sporting event will take place.

“After that, everything is paid for by the organizing committee. NMSA may be able to help with the airfare, subject to board approval,” White said.

White then instructed all federations to pass the information to their members who might be interested to join the program. “I would be happy to do whatever I can to facilitate.”

Saintrond said that this would be the first time that FISU is launching the program, which aims to give students from different countries an inside track in organizing WUC events as an international volunteers.

“We would very much appreciate if you could help us promoting this program in your respective country and to your students. We have seen that several NUSF have already put a direct link with information on this programe on their website. We strongly encourage you to do the same,” added Saintrond.

The first WUC event is cross country in Casino, Italy on March 12 and will be followed by cycling in Tagaytay City, Philippines from March 23 to 27. FISU’s world championships will stretch to December with the martial arts of sambo in Larnaca, Cyprus from Dec. 9 to 11.

FISU is based in Lausanne, Switzerland. Since 2004, they had organized 34 WUC sporting events that attracted thousands of student athletes from more than 150 countries around the world.

Archery, badminton, baseball, beach volleyball, bridge, chess, cross country, cycling, equestrian, flat water canoeing, floorball, futsal, golf, handball, field hockey, karate, match racing, ski orienteering, rowing, rugby 7s, sailing, sport shooting, softball, squash, taekwondo, triathlon, white water canoeing, waterskiing, weightlifting, woodball, wrestling, 3×3 basketball, American football, boxing, canoe sprint, netball, rowing, speed skating, and sport climbing, are FISU’s WUC events.
