Wessel, Kadokura get Top 2 seeding

Last year’s finalists Nason Wessel and Yutaka Kadokura are the Top 2 seeds in the boys U12 singles event in the 2021 White Coconut Tennis Classic that will kick off tomorrow at the American Memorial Park tennis courts.
Wessel, who defeated Kadokura in the 2020 championship match, 6-0, 6-3, is seeded No. 1 and will begin his title defense this Saturday as he will face the winner in the first round match between Vio Hyun and Ian Chae at the upper half of the bracket.
At the lower half, the No. 2 seed Kadokura will take on the victor in the game between the unseeded Stephen Yeom and Ji Hun Park. Completing the field in the boys U12 singles are Ki Won Lee, Landon Pudney, Ocean Kang, Henry Yeom, Eamon Tang, and Si Woo Lee.
In the girls U12 singles, the participants are Lina Tsukagishi, Hannah Chae, Ellie Cho, Ann Lee, Isa Nishitani, and Eun Ho Park. The boys U16 singles also has six entries in David Kwon, Daniel Kang, Dev Bachani, Sam Sulp, Min Seung Kim, and Cody Shimizu, while the girls U14 singles has only four players in Irin Chung, Hoo Wang, Anna Kwon, and Savita Sikkel.
The boys U14 singles crown will be contested by five players, led by Top 2 seeds Wataru Kadokura and June Yu. Rounding the field are Henry Choi, Takeru Jim, and Simon Tang.
In the women’s singles, the participants are Serin Chung, Hye Jin Elliot, Jeane Bracken, Grace Choi, Elizabeth Culp, and Yuko Kumada, while Peter Loken will lead the entries in the men’s over 40 singles event. Joining Loken in the draw are Tomas Abel, Dong Min Lee, Edwi Simbulan, Eric Abragan, Whit Altizer, John Bradkey, Paul Jang, Bishop Ryan Jimez, JP Nogues, and Gary Ramsey.
The White Coconut Classic is the Northern Mariana Islands Tennis Association’s first tournament of the season and will run until next weekend.
