Weatherization Assistance Program accepting applicants

The CNMI Department of Public Works Energy Division is informing all Saipan, Tinian and Rota residents that it is now accepting new Weatherization Assistance Program applications as well as applications for clients who were affected by Super Typhoon Yutu and Typhoon Mangkhut.

For residents affected by the typhoon who did not receive any financial assistance from any federal agencies, you may call the Energy Division to see whether your household qualifies to be re-weatherized.

The WAP program is designed to assist and encourage homeowners to take efficient measures through the retrofitting and replacement of inefficient home appliances such as refrigerators and window-type air conditioners and lightings with the qualified Energy Star rated labels to help reduce energy consumption.

Individuals wishing to avail of this program may obtain an application at the Energy Division on Capitol Hill, Building 1337.

For any questions regarding this program, contact program manager Christina Babauta or Energy Auditor Alexandro Castro Jr., at 664-4481/84, Monday through Friday from 7:3am to 11:30am and from 12:30pm to 4:30pm.

Funding for this program is made possible through a grant by the U.S. Department of Energy. (PR)
