Water interruptions in villages because of reservoir issues

Various villages experienced water interruptions over the long weekend as issues continue to beset reservoirs on island.

In an update yesterday, the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. said that low water levels were experienced in the Rapagao reservoir.

“CUC customers along Costal Drive and Laguna Drive are experiencing a temporary service interruption due to low water levels in the Rapagao reservoir.  The tank has been secured to allow levels to recover,” CUC public information officer Brad Ruszala said.

He added that regular water service will resume as scheduled this morning.

Last Saturday, customers who receive water from the San Vicente reservoir lost service after two booster pumps went offline Friday night.

Limited service was restored to customers later on that same day after crews successfully repaired and reinstalled one of two booster pumps that went offline.

“Until both of the boosters come online, water service will be limited in the affected area. Crews are addressing the second booster pump this morning,” CUC said yesterday.

It added that the completion of the repairs was estimated at 4pm yesterday.

“In addition to the customers directly affected by the offline booster pump, CUC customers in Garapan served by the Puerto Rico reservoir are experiencing limited water service due to low levels inside of the tank,” CUC said.

Regularly scheduled water service will resume today, according to the utilities company.
