The battle for the SBA Budweiser Open 8-Ball Thursday League crown appears to be between the 9 Eleven-MJD Warriors and the Chow Time 8-Black Ball. They both occupy the Top 2 spots of the league’s standings.
The Warriors enjoy a two-game lead with a 104-65 card against the 8-Black Ball’s 102-67 slate. Anything could still happen with eight Thursday play dates left in the season, from July 27 to Sept. 14
Even the 9 Eleven Titans II (96-73) and Tasha’s Wild Bills (93-76) or the Sands Team SCS (86-83) could still pull off some surprises as long as they start racking up wins while hoping that the Warriors and 8-Black Ball would lose their remaining matches.
The Chow Time-Blue Haus Homeboyz (70-99), Tasha’s Extreme (65-104), and 9 Eleven Jam Shooters (60-109) complete the standings of the eight-team Thursday League being held in various establishments on the island.
The Warriors remained on top after completing an 11-2 demolition of the Homeboyz while the 8-Black Ball could have grabbed the top spot but only managed a 7-6 decision against the hard-fighting Titans II.
The 8-Black Ball and Titans II were tied at six games apiece, and the former escaped with the win thanks to Jeff Gayas and Mervin Sahagun as the duo bested Patrick Cepeda and Ray Matsunaga in the final Partner’s 8-Ball contest.
The Tasha’s Wild Bill’s drubbed the Jam Shooters, 10-3, and Team SCS downed Tasha’s Extreme, 8-5, in the other matches.
The Warriors will take on the Titans II on Thursday, July 27, hoping to further establish some distance against the 8-Black Ball, who would then battle the lowly Jam Shooters. Team SCS will face the Homeboyz and the Tasha’s Wild Bills clash with he Extreme in the other scheduled matches.
In tomorrow’s Tuesday League, the 9 Eleven-Docomo Hustlers clash with Tasha’s Str8 Black Ball while Tasha’s Crazy 8 will meet the Chow Time Assassins and the 9 Eleven Titans will visit the Chow Time Destroyers.
The league’s Bud Cup will be played once the top three finishers of the season is known after the final matches on Sept. 14. The awards banquet is set in November.
