The United Filipino Organization is now actively seeking corporate sponsors for this year’s Pistang Pinoy (Filipino Fiesta) event.
Bong Malasarte, president of the umbrella organization of some 30 Filipino groups in the CNMI, said yesterday that donations from various business establishments and organizations abet their financial constraints in hosting one of UFO’s annual events.
The 2012 Pistang Pinoy is slated for June 10, a Sunday, and the event coincides with the commemoration of Philippine Independence Day every June 12.
The event highlights Philippine cultures and traditions through performances and presentations from different Filipino groups on island.
It also features fun and exciting activities, including singing contest, cooking competition, and a basketball tournament.
“We understand the difficult economic situation that’s affecting everyone, but year after year, we have generous sponsors that support our endeavors aimed at involving not just Filipinos on island but the entire island community for a fun-filled celebration. Once again, we are calling on them to join us and give the community an event they can look forward to,” Malasarte told Saipan Tribune.
This year’s Pistang Pinoy festivities will also be the last for the Philippine Consulate General on Saipan following its announcement to shut down its operations after Oct. 31.
