Walls for new Papago Tank completed
The replacement for the former “Super Blue” tank of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. for the Papago reservoir is expected to be completed next month.
The tank is 40 feet in height and 42 feet in diameter. Its walls are completed and work for the roofing will start this week.
The construction for the tank foundation started on the last week of February and is forecasted to finish in May.
The tank is expected to be online in June and will be filled once it is cleaned and disinfected.
This 300,000-gallon pre-stressed reinforced concrete tank replaced the former 500,000-gallon welded steel tank that was dismantled.
The tank will serve Papago, Stanford, upper San Vicente, and Dandan homestead.
The tank is integral with the Dandan tank and is the link between Kagman and the San Vicente and Dandan tank service areas.
It is pivotal to bring water from Kagman to San Vicente and Dandan.
Currently, CUC customers in Papago, San Vicente, and portions of Dandan, As Lito, and Finasisu who would otherwise be served by the Papago reservoir are served by temporary tanks with limited storage to mitigate water service interruptions during the construction of the new tank.
This ongoing project was identified as a critical need for continued reliable water storage in Papago and the neighboring communities.
The $1.4-million project is funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through a Safe Drinking Water Act State Revolving Fund grant.
