Voyagers, Hustlers clash for Tuesday billiards crown
Sister teams Jokers Voyagers and Docomo Hustlers dispatch their respective foes to arrange a title showdown for the Budweiser-Saipan Billiards Association Open 8-Ball Tuesday League title.
The finals and the battle for third between the losing semifinalists are set for tomorrow.
The Voyagers foiled Jonny’s Titans’ upset bid, 9-5, while the Hustlers edged fellow Jokers Bar & Grill-sponsored squad Destroyers, 9-7, to march into the finals. The Destroyers and Titans battle for third place honors.
The trio of Mark Butac, Brian Nelvis, and Rolly Villanueva did not give the quartet of Patrick Cepeda, Ray Matsunaga, John Reyes, and Randy Sablan any room to operate and quickly got their opponents out of their rhythm. Villanueva sealed the Voyagers’ win, their ninth in the race-to-nine contest, with a victory over Cepeda in the Partners 8-Ball.
It was a different story in the Hustlers-Destroyers match with Rowel Mariano and Albert Pangilinan needing victories each against Jeff Garcia and Rico Montano to keep the former’s title hopes alive.
Games in the Thursday league were cancelled in observance of Maundy Thursday. Matches are rescheduled tonight, March 28. The Jokers Homeboyz will take on the Wild Bill’s Rack ‘N’ Roll, the Jokers WildBoyz will collide with the Wild Bills Wild Wild West, and the Jonny’s Team SCS will host the National Alamo Car Rental.
