Voyagers continue to pile up wins in Tuesday League
The Jokers IT&E Voyagers continue to pile up wins that would secure for them the 2014 Budweiser Open 8-Ball Tuesday League crown.
The Voyagers’ latest victims were Smoke Pub Saipan TV when they dealt the visiting Hustlers a 9-6 trouncing in results of the three matches that were played in various bars on the island last week.
Jokers IT&E was actually trailing Saipan TV, 4-3, after the six games in the singles and the first of three doubles matches played.
Erwin Gomez, Robert Sanciangco, and Senen Pangilinan downed Joshua Woodson, Marc Brian Nelvis, and Roman Rodriguez in their respective singles matchups.
Pangilinan then teamed up with Rowel Mariano to beat the Voyagers’ duo of Rodriguez and Rolly Villanueva in the doubles.
Woodson and Villanueva bounced back in the second doubles when they bested the Hustlers pair of Sanciangco and Joey Lucido to tie the contest at 4-4.
Both teams then alternated in winning the next four games to keep the score tied at 6-6.
Mark Butac, Rodriguez, and Nelvis sealed the win for the Voyagers after defeating Jerry Soriano, Sanciangco, and Lucido in the final three singles matches, respectively.
The Voyagers now have a 65-25 record followed by sister team Jokers Str8 Shooters’ 57-33 slate. The Hustlers are at third at 55-35.
Jhonny’s Crazy 8 (52-38), Smoke Pub Sang&D’Gang (27-63), and Lanchera Girls (14-76) complete the six-team field.
In other results, the Str8 Shooters posted a 10-5 decision over Sang&D’Gang, while the Crazy 8 won by forfeit against the Lanchera Girls. (Jon Perez)
