A group of volunteers collected a large amount of trash last Saturday at the Paseo de Marianas.
The monthly cleanup, spearheaded by PDM Promoters Inc., was participated in by 30 Kinpachi Restaurant staff and Saipan Awaodori Team members, which had members as young as 6 years old.
“We involve these children in helping keep the environment clean. This is one way to keep them occupied and use their talents for good,” said PDM Promoters Inc. coordinator Sonia Siwa.
The volunteers collected 720 lbs of trash from the Paseo de Marianas area and even covered Coral Tree Avenue and a portion of Beach Road.
The group has been collecting trash as part of their community outreach. They reportedly collected nearly 9,000 lbs of trash in 2016 from the Paseo de Marianas area alone.
The largest trash haul, according to Siwa, was back in January ‘16, when the group gathered 1,180 lbs of trash. February and November 2016 tied for second largest at 1,020 lbs of trash.
