Brownstein, a volunteer with the Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, donated $1,000 last week to help with the group’s efforts in promoting Sexual Assault Awareness Month this year.

“It is really wonderful to see these different agencies and organizations come together for this worthwhile cause, it really inspired me,” said Brownstein. “The creativity and the energy that is being shared to bring the important message that it is time to talk about sexual assault to the community is amazing and I wanted to become involved.”

The coalition is joined by Division of Youth Services, Domestic Violence Intervention Center, Department of Public Safety (Fire Division and Police Division), Karidat Social Services, Ayuda Network, the Family Violence Task Force, and the CNMI Judiciary to create the Committee that plans out the events and activities for the month.

From weekly awareness village walks on Wednesdays, Project Prom to the annual S.A.F.E. (Safe, Aware, Free, Empower) Jamboree, consisting of a softball tournament, Rock against Sexual Violence concert, SAAM 2012 is focusing on this year’s theme, “It is time.to talk about it! Connect. Respect. End Sexual Violence.”

Kiki Igitol Benjamin, a program coordinator at the coalition, is this year’s committee chair.

“We are grateful for the efforts of all our partners and those of our volunteers, such as Rhoda. This is a community-based and community-owned effort and we are pleased to see more of our community being actively involved in our prevention efforts,” she said. “We would like to extend our gratitude to Rhoda for her donation, it is much appreciated.”

Volunteers are welcome at the coalition and for those interested in assisting may call 234-3878.” (PR)
