A school vice principal for 10 years, Associate Commissioner for Administration Eric Magofna delivers his remarks at the closing of last Monday’s professional development and ceremony to honor his peers.

Considered as the pillars—support system—of all public schools leadership, vice principals from all of Rota, Tinian, and Saipan gathered on Monday, April 19, for a professional development.

Legal, mental health, and other leadership experts conducted the professional development as part of the school district’s ongoing initiative to support the growth and success of these school leaders.

It was also intended to recognize their contributions to the overall success of the school district.

The Public School System—led by Education Commissioner Dr. Alfred B. Ada and Associate Commissioner Eric Magofna, together with Board of Education chair Andrew L. Orsini and board member Antonio L. Borja—spoke about the vice principals’ contributions to the success of all of 20 public elementary, middle, and high schools in the CNMI.

The PSS Office of Student Support Services—led by senior director Dr. Yvonne R. Pangelinan, Instructional Technology director Dr. Bobby Cruz, and behavioral and mental health expert Dr. Jennifer Maratita, Frank Lee Borja and Walter Mendez—focused on the school district’s mental health program and stress relief techniques.

PSS legal counsel Tiberius Mocanu and Office of Public Auditor counsel Ashley Kost talked about the code of ethics and fielded questions about professional conduct, ethical principles and standards, among others. (PSS)
