USP4GG remembers Ninoy’s death
The US Pinoys for Good Governance Marianas Chapter (CNMI) recently dedicated a Mass at the San Antonio Church to commemorate the 31st death anniversary of late senator Benigno Aquino Jr. and to mark a Global Day of Prayer for Peace in the West Philippine Sea.
“I would like to thank Rev. Fr. Romil Apperocho, Sr. Lucy Torres Reyes, Sr. Cilda Tanghal, and other members of the Saipan community who participated in the Commemorative Mass for the 31st death anniversary of Ninoy Aquino and the Global Day of Prayer,” said Dr. Celia Lamkin, chairperson of USP4GG Marianas chapter (CNMI and Guam). “This shows that the Filipinos in the CNMI still remember the sacrifices of Ninoy for the Filipinos whom he said was worth dying for.”
Aquino was assassinated on Aug. 21, 1983, on the tarmac of what is now known as the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. He was the husband of Corazon Aquino, who was later to become Philippine president. His assassination led to the downfall of Ferdinand Marcos on Feb. 25, 1986, through the People Power Revolution.
Lamkin urged the Filipino community and its supporters to continue to pray for peace in the West Philippine Sea “while we are waiting for the judgment from the UN Arbitration Tribunal since the Philippine government has already filed charges against China’s intrusion in our Philippine territories in January 2013.” (PR)
