The U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration recently approved the CNMI Senior Community Service Employment Program Grant Application for Program Year 2016, covering July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017.

The total amount awarded is $324,965. At the same time, the four-year State Plan for the Senior Community Service Employment Program was also approved. Additional information requested by DOL will be submitted before Sept. 1, 2016. Both Grant Application and State Plan were authored by Office on Aging director Walter Manglona.

The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is a community service and work-based job-training program for older adults. Authorized by the Older Americans Act, the program provides training for low-income, unemployed seniors ages 55 years and older, to assist them in finding permanent jobs. The number of positions is dependent on the availability of funding. The current number of slots is 34—24 on Saipan, five on Rota, and five on Tinian.
