USCG Guam holds change-of-command for cutter

SANTA RITA, Guam—Lt. Brenden Kelley relieved Lt. Evin Moses as the commanding officer of U.S. Coast Guard cutter Kiska at Sector Guam on Friday, June 22.
During his two-year tenure, Moses navigated over 12,700 nautical miles across the largest search and rescue region in the Coast Guard and successfully executed 12 high profile search and rescue cases. His efforts in the Orange Boat Initiative engagements in the Federated States of Micronesia resulted in 135 skiffs painted high visibility international orange to increase their detectability against the ocean surface, a program that has saved multiple lives.
Giving his heartfelt farewells, Moses was most appreciative of his crew. Their remarkable hard work and motivation enabled him to overcome numerous hurdles encountered while stationed in one of the Coast Guard’s most remote locations.
Kelley is transferring from USCGC Douglas Munro homeported in Alaska where he served as the operations officer.
Moses will be moving to Connecticut where he will teach Nautical Science at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
Kiska is a 110-foot Island-Class patrol boat based in Guam serving as a versatile platform for performing a wide variety of missions.
In addition to routine missions around Guam and the Commonwealth of Marianas Islands, Kiska conducts search and rescue response and assists in fisheries enforcement within the Republic of Palau, and FSM.
