US, NMI flags lowered to half-staff
All CNMI and U.S. flags were lowered to half-staff from June 2 to June 4 as a mark of solemn respect for the victims of the tragic shooting at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Gov. Ralph DLG Torres gave the directive to lower all CNMI flags to half-staff on June 2, soon after President Donald J. Trump ordered that the flag of the United States be flown at half-staff at all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the federal government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its territories and possessions until sunset, June 4, 2019.
Commonwealth flags will be flown at half-staff for the same period of time.
“We join the nation in mourning the loss of the 12 victims, most of whom were public servants dutifully serving the city of Virginia Beach. We extend our thoughts and prayers to the wounded victims. We join the national call for all Americans to unite in prayer for the victims and their families and friends. May our country come together to prevent tragedies like this from happening again,” said Torres’ proclamation.
