US gives FSM $17.5M in Compact impact payments

Between Jan. 1 and March 31, 2015, the Federated States of Micronesia’s Department of Finance received Compact Grant Assistance payments from the U.S. government totaling almost $17.5 million. These payments were for Compact Sector Grants, Carry-Over Sector Grants, and Supplementary Education Grants:

  • Health: $ 5,913,842
    Education: $ 5,364,300
    Supplementary Education Grant: $ 2,231,296
    Public Sector Capacity Building: $ 838,234
    Private Sector Development: $ 542,415
    Environment: $ 415,341
    Infrastructure: $ 1,817,004
    Enhanced Reporting and Accountability: $ 376,389
    Total Amount $ 17,498,821

This amount is provided to the States of the FSM as follows:

  • National Gov’t: $ 1,178,346
    Chuuk: $ 6,885,431
    Kosrae: $ 2,096,000
    Pohnpei: $ 4,312,898
    Yap: $ 3,026,146

New buses for Chuuk
The Office of Insular Affairs released $105,371 to pay for four school buses and a flatbed truck for the Chuuk Department of Education, which arrived in Chuuk in February. The buses have a 35-student capacity. They will be used to transport students living within the town limits to the high school. (U.S. Embassy Kolonia)
