The University of Guam Singers has won the Gold Award in the “small ensemble with microphones” division at the 42nd International Choir Festival of Songs in the Olomouc, Czech Republic. The UOG Singers scored 96 out of a possible 100 points in the category.

The UOG Singers who competed at the festival are Randy Dahilig, Melwert Etumai, Jisela Galino, Andrew Gumataotao, Nicole Leon Guerrero, Donna Lubas, Jacob Mafnas, Julia Rivera, Kalani Sisson, Alfredo Tindugan, and Lovelynn Trinidad.

The UOG Singers featured a different style than any other choir at the competition, singing a capella pop/jazz. “People really responded well to this modern style,” said Dr. Randall Johnson, UOG Singers director. “Winning gold again demonstrates the talent and work ethic of our UOG Singers.”

The competition was organized by Festa Musicale from the Czech Republic. The international competition featured choirs from the Czech Republic, Germay, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Slovenia and Turkey.  The UOG Singers have previously competed and won gold at other Festa Musicale choral festivals in Thailand and Guam.
