UOG Island Sustainability Conference on April 15-16

From small islands come big ideas, says Ronald Jumeau, Seychelles Ambassador for Climate Change and Small Island Developing States issues and keynote speaker for the UOG Center for Island Sustainability’s regional conference on Island Sustainability, scheduled for April 15 and 16 at the Hyatt Regency Guam.
Jumeau is a global leader in island conservation and sustainable livelihoods. He has focused his attention on raising awareness of the impact of climate change on vulnerable island nations and how island communities can achieve sustainable social and economic objectives.
Jumeau is the lead spokesman for the Alliance of Small Island States and chair of the Steering Committee of the Global Island Partnership GLISPA. In 2007, Jumeau was assigned to New York as the Seychelles Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Ambassador to the United States, Canada, Brazil, Cuba and several Caribbean islands until 2012 when he became a globe-trotting activist for the survival of his and other island nations.
The theme of the conference is “Concept to Implementation: Achieving a Sustainable Community.” The conference features, panel sessions, winners of the Green Dream Home competition, and 20-plus breakout sessions including sustainable environments, climate change and energy, sustainable land use and regional management, technical innovations for sustainable production and consumption, leadership for sustainable development, entrepreneurial opportunities for sustainable solutions, and corporate social responsibility.
“Come to the conference to learn, network, and help develop our sustainable community,” said UOG sustainability coordinator Elvie Tyler. “We look forward to another forum in which we can share knowledge and become voices for action for the benefit of our islands.”
