UFO president Bong Malasarte confirmed yesterday that Leo Canedo, Boy Ching, and Ed Reyes presented the $3,636.65 check to Philippine Red Cross secretary general Gwendolyn Pang and officer-in-charge Ana Bandril at the Philippine Red Cross office in Makati City.

UFO, the umbrella organization of some 30 Filipino groups in the CNMI, spearheaded the fundraising drive to benefit the victims of Typhoon Sendong, which ravaged Cagayan de Oro and Iligan Cities in Mindanao before Christmas.

Included in the $2,500 collected amount was the $1,000 donation of IT&E.

“Knowing that the UFO as able to safeguard the money that community members donated for the Typhoon Sendong victims and turn it over to the proper authorities is an accomplishment and gives us a great feeling,” Malasarte told Saipan Tribune.

Malasarte noted that they value the trust that donors gave to them in ensuring that the money will reach those who were affected by the unfortunate disaster.

“We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to all those who contributed and are willing to join us in our efforts to help our kababayans in Mindanao to rebuild their lives after this tragedy,” he said.
