Besides being a challenging year, 2011 was also a year of growth and progress for the United Filipino Organization, according to president Bong Malasarte.

Malasarte said the year that’s about to end saw the umbrella organization of some 30 Filipino groups in the CNMI the success of their various projects despite the economic recession on the islands.

“It was a difficult year, yes. But I would like to think of 2011 on a different light. This year, our projects were accomplished with the help of our sponsors and donors who have generously shared with us even with this kind of economy,” he told Saipan Tribune.

Malasarte noted that the uncertainties caused by the immigration issue in the Commonwealth compounded the economic situation on the islands.

“But we’re moving forward now because we already know the rules,” he added.

The president gave special recognition to the fact that UFO came together as an organization to achieve its goals and objectives.

“The teamwork of UFO officers and members was phenomenal. It certainly assisted us throughout the course of 2011. Without our joint efforts, we could never accomplish what we have. I hope we continue to exhibit that same solidarity in 2012,” he added.
