UFO prepares for Pistang Pinoy
The United Filipino Organization is busy planning for this year’s celebration of the Philippine Independence Day on June 12, Sunday. The annual Pistang Pinoy (Filipino Fiesta) will be the highlight of the festivities at the Marianas Business Plaza in Susupe.
UFO president Bong Malasarte said a flag raising ceremony at 7am would start the Philippine Independence Day celebration with Philippine honorary consul Eli Arago and members of the Filipino community.
Several officers and members of Emon Lodge 179 of the Free and Accepted Masons will be carrying the flag to the flagpole and help Arago in raising it. Other details of the flag raising ceremony are being finalized and would be announced before June 12.
Celebration would then shift to the Marianas Business Plaza at 9am where booths, games, and entertainment program will be held. There would also be a food festival of Filipino dishes.
Malasarte said they are planning to hold a Pasayaw or dance party at night similar to those being held in provinces in the Philippines during fiestas. Other details are being finalized.
The dance party will be like a masquerade ball where participants would wear a mask. Males would stand on one side then get female partners of their choice.
A fee of $1 will be charged for every dance music played is being proposed with the funds collected to be used in various community projects by UFO.
