UFO distributes relief items to villages

The United Filipino Organization distributed relief items to villages last Saturday, with nine groups fanning out to various parishes and houses to personally hand out the items.

According to UFO president Bong Malasarte, they were able to distribute over 1,000 bags of relief items in San Roque, Tanapag, Gualo Rai, Garapan, Kagman, Koblerville, San Antonio, San Jose, San Vicente, and Chalan Kanoa.

Unlike their first distribution, the organization did not only help Filipino communities but everyone in the community.

“We distributed to everyone. It felt good to help. They were very thankful, even though what we gave was only little,” Malasarte said. “We prioritized those whose houses got damaged and those who lost their roofs.”

The relief items contained bags of rice from UFO. They were also tasked by Philippine honorary consul Glicerio Arago to distribute the cans of luncheon loaf donated by D&Q International and Hormel Foods. They also distributed water and blankets from the Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, which UFO is a part of.

“We’d like to thank everyone who helped us with this outreach, D&Q, Matt Deleon Guerrero, and the Seventh Day Adventist who allowed us to use the warehouse,” Malasarte said.

He also thanked their officers and members as well as the Emon Lodge No. 179 who took charge of the Kagman distribution.
