Two-way tie for batting, pitching lead
The GSM Masters’ Jerry Ayuyu and Saisei’s Justin Reyes are the early leaders in the batting race, while there is also a tie between the Papa Bears’ Paul Camacho and BSI Aces’ Mel Sakisat for the top spot in the pitching contest in the 2016 Masters Baseball League.
After two games at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield, Ayuyu was 6-for-8 at the plate for a batting average of .750. Reyes earned the same mark to tie Ayuyu for the lead in the batting race. Nine other players posted a batting average of at least .500 to make it to the Top 10. The list includes Papa Bears’ Bob Lizama (.625), the Old Stars’ Jess Mesa (.571), Rubak’s Theo Minor (.571), the Old Stars’ Ben Tagabuel (.571), BSI Aces’ John Acosta (.555), GSM Masters’ Mark Flores (.500), BSI Aces’ Reno Celis (.500), Saisei’s Bern Kileleman (.500), and BSI Aces’ Joe Tenorio (.500).
Six other players made it to the leaderboard, which was based on seven or more at bats and after the results of the Nov. 23 games had been tallied.
In the pitching race, both Camacho and Sakisat earned 0.00 ERA after their respective teams completed their first three matches of the season.
Camacho pitched 7.1 innings and gave up no earned run, while Sakisat was flawless in the six innings he worked the mound. Sakisat’s teammate Ben Duenas is at second with a 2.10 ERA, while Old Stars’ Bill Camacho (1.83), Saisei’s Darwin Masaharu (2.33), and GSM Masters’ Juan Diaz (3.66) complete the leaderboard.
Paul Camacho and Sakisat are also ahead in the most strikeouts with eight apiece, while Bill Camacho and Juan Diaz have seven each so far. The Papa Bears’ Nick Reyes has six Ks.
In other categories, the Old Stars’ James Fleming is on top of both runs scored and triples, while his teammate George David and Justin Reyes are the frontrunners in the doubles and RBIs divisions, respectively.
Flemiang is in a tie with Pepi Tenorio in the runs category as they have earned eight each, while in the triples, the former has one so far, the same number that Bill Camacho, Ayuyu, and Mesa have. In the doubles, David is alone at the top with his three, while Reyes’ six RBIs lead the five of Acosta and the four of five other players.
