A 34-year-old man was slightly injured last week when two masked men robbed him at knifepoint inside his parked car at the Garapan Fishing Base.

The victim, a Chinese national, sustained minor injuries on the right cheek, according to police officer Jason Tarkong yesterday.

Police said the suspects, described as wearing dark clothing and dark masks, took the victim’s $600 cash and fled in a dark Mitsubishi sedan.

Preliminary police investigation showed that the victim was sleeping in his car parked at Fishing Base last Wednesday, Dec. 28, at 7pm, when two masked men woke him up. One suspect opened the driver’s door while the second suspect entered the front passenger door, pointed a knife at the victim’s neck, and demanded money.

One of the suspects hit the victim in the face. The victim surrendered $600 cash from his pocket. The robbers then fled.

Police were contacted but the report did not indicate who called the police.

The NMI Crime Stoppers Program is seeking the community’s assistance for information about the robbery. Crime Stoppers pays up to $1,000 for any information leading to an arrest.

A day before the Fishing Base heist, a Japanese female tourist was robbed by an unidentified man as she was walking along Chalan Pale Arnold Road near Palms Resort Saipan in San Roque.

The 34-year-old victim was not injured, but she lost her beige Gucci purse containing a Channel wallet, $500 cash, and a dive computer watch.

The victim was unable to give complete descriptions of the suspect and his getaway vehicle.

Last Nov. 16, a female Japanese tourist was hurt after being dragged several meters away by a car when she chased a robber who grabbed her bag along Beach Road, Garapan. Police arrested two suspects after a week.
