Two groups of Japanese homestay students will be visiting Saipan separately as part of their respective Student Cultural Exchange Programs. The students come from the Kokusai Seishonen Kenshu Kyokai or the International Youth Association of Japan and the Sanpoen group.

KSKK will be arriving on July 26, Tuesday, at 3pm, while Sanpoen planes in two days after on Thursday, July 28. Both groups will be joined by their respective chaperones and will stay in homes of volunteer families on Saipan.

The KSKK has 10 students with one female chaperon, while Sanpoen, which will hold a memorial service as part of their annual visit to the island, will have 20 students and eight chaperones.

KSKK members will be picked up at the airport by their respective homestay families and will meet with Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang the following day, July 27, at 9:15am. They will spend the rest of the day visiting the island’s historical tourist sites.

The American Memorial Park, Sugar King Park, Banzai Cliff, Suicide Cliff, Grotto, and Bird Island Lookout are some of the historical sites that they would visit and spend the day at the Pacific Islands Club the following day, July 28.

They will then go to Managaha Island on July 29 where they will also have a barbecue lunch. Saturday, July 30, will be their free day where they would be spending the day with their respective host families. The sayonara party will be on July 31 at Minatchom Atdao Pavilion.

Their final activity will be visiting the man’amko center on Monday, Aug. 1, before leaving the following day at 4:20pm.

Sanpoen, meanwhile, will be spending a week on Saipan with the Nagano group as the advance party on July 28 at 3pm. The next group will arrive also at 3am on July 29 and has scheduled memorial services at Banzai and Suicide cliff and Last Command Post starting at 1:30pm.

The whole group will be making a courtesy call to Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and Lt. Gov. Victor B. Hocog at 3:30pm at the Governor’s Office on Capital Hill.

After visiting American Memorial Park and Sugar King Park on July 30, they will be making paper lanterns for the Floating Lantern Ceremony at 6pm at the Hopwood beach area.

They will also visit Managaha Island on Aug. 1 and will have a sayonara party at the Chalan Kanoa Beach Club. They leave, again in two separate groups, at 4:15am and 4:20pm.
