Aaron Tomokane made up for his surprise loss in 2015 after winning in the 2nd Marianas Muscle Bodybuilding and Physique Competition held last Saturday at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-purpose Center in Susupe.
Tomokane topped last weekend’s men’s bodybuilding contest, avenging his defeat at the hands of inaugural champion Alvin Rebong. The 2015 winner slid to second place, while Ezekiel Valdez rounded out the Top 3.
Tomokane, the crowd favorite, also won the same event in the tournament that doubled as the CNMI Bodybuilding and Physique Championships. He received trophies for topping both contests.
Vincent Aldan duplicated Tomokane’s twin wins after prevailing in the men’s physique. Aldan prevailed against Enrico Valdez, Alberto Roberto, and John Nekaifes.
In the women’s division, there was only one entry in Jocelyn Itibus.
The Top 3 finishers in the men’s bodybuilding and physique in the Marianas Muscle received trophies, while only the first placer got awards in the championships. Miss Marianas Jian Joyner and head judge Josephine Togawa presented the trophies to the winners. Greg Borja, Farleen Esmundo, Valerie De Mesa, and Andy Reese joined Togawa on the board of judges, while Commonwealth Bodybuilding Federation president John Davis hosted the competition.
Davis said last weekend’s event was also a qualifier for off-island tournaments this year.
“We’re looking at sending people to Tahiti this year for the South Pacific Championships and we will get representatives for that tournament from here and other qualifiers. From now on, that will be our selection process. No one can represent the CNMI to off-island contest without going through qualifiers,” Davis said.
He also encouraged interested individuals to join future local tournaments, as CBF is trying hard to revive bodybuilding in the Commonwealth. He added that they are also working on a youth program that will help build a strong foundation for the sport.
