Marianas High School is back on track after sweeping its pair of matches in the 2018-2019 PSS Interscholastic Volleyball League last Thursday at the MHS Gymnasium.

The Lady Dolphins, who bowed to Saipan International School and Mt. Carmel School last Tuesday, played back-to-back matches last Sept. 20 and prevailed in both, beating Kagman High School first before downing Agape Christian School in the second game.

Against Kagman, MHS cruised to a 25-7 in the opening set of their match on the south court and then earned the automatic win after outclassing the Lady Ayuyus in the second, 25-18. The Lady Dolphins went on to complete the sweep following a 15-4 triumph in the third set.

From the southern side of the court, MHS moved over to the north to face Agape. The Lady Dolphins again had an easy time taking the first set against the Torchbearers, 25-14, before Agape played better in the second, but still lost, as MHS recorded a 25-17 win that sealed the deal for the host team. MHS then showed no mercy on Agape despite getting the outright victory after the second set, as the Lady Dolphins posted a 15-1 win in the third.

In other results, GCA also went 2-0 last Thursday, while Saipan Southern High School and Mt. Carmel had splits.

The Lady Eagles played in the first game on the north court and challenged the Lady Knights. GCA drew first blood with a 25-16 win in the opener and then got the automatic victory after taking the second set in similar scores. Mt. Carmel averted a shutout loss after prevailing in the third set, 15-5.

Up next for GCA was Saipan Southern and the former also won the first two sets to clinch the early victory in the last game of the night. The opening set was a close game with the Lady Eagles eking out a 25-21 triumph. In the second, GCA gained more cushion en route to a 25-17 win. With the game already decided, GCA took its guards down a bit, allowing Saipan Southern to record a 15-10 victory.

Earlier in the first game on the southern side of the MHS Gymnasium, Saipan Southern swept Kagman. Though the Lady Rays took only two sets to win, Kagman did not give up without a fight, as the former posted a single-digit winning margin, 25-18, in the opener, and had an even tougher in the second, 25-22.

Meanwhile, after losing to GCA in its first game of the day, Mt. Carmel bounced back and dominated Agape, 25, 8, 25-6, 15-2.

Agape is still winless this season and hopes to end the drought when it plays two matches tomorrow. Agape will challenge the leading GCA in the first match at 4:30pm before facing SIS in the last game at 6:30pm (make-up). Also scheduled to see action tomorrow are Saipan Southern and SIS at 4:30 and 5:30pm, Kagman and MHS at 5:30pm, and MHS JV1 and MHS JV2 at 6:30pm.
