Tsunami Saipan sets swim records, tops 5 divisions

Tsunami Swimming Center Saipan registered two age group records on top of winning five divisions in the 2017 Guam Swimming Championships held over the weekend at the Hagatna Pool.
Isaiah Aleksenko posted one of club’s two age group marks in the off-island tournament after clocking in at 2:44.97 in the boys 11 to 12’s 200m butterfly. He surpassed the 2:45.87 that Saipan Swim Club’s Jinnosuke Suzuki made last March 23, 2017. The Tsunami Saipan swimmer, who placed third overall in the rankings in his division, finished the four-lap race way ahead of Tsunami Guam’s Chuckie White, who timed in at 3:11.17.
The other Tsunami Saipan record logged last weekend was courtesy of Ashley Dangol, whose 30.95 seconds in the 50m freestyle eclipsed the 31.28 seconds Miku Tammy marked on Sept. 29, 2012 in the girls 9 to 10 age group.
Dangol was the lone swimmer to complete the sprint in less than 31 seconds, as her closest pursuer checked in at 38.34. The Tsunami Saipan swimmer bested 11 other entries in that 50m freestyle event and took the top honors in her age group after collecting 72 points. Dangol ruled seven other events in the Guam meet to make it to the podium along with teammate Shoko Litulumar (62 points) and Manhoben Swim Club’s Mia Lee (55 points).
Ashley’s brother Aasish also lorded it over in the boys U7 division after gaining 72 points off his first places finishes in eight races. Aasish defeated Tsunami Guam’s Ocean Campus (53), Manhoben’s John Moore (52), and Andersen Marlins’ William Hurrelbrink (27) and Kenny Wyrick (10).
Tsunami Saipan had a sweep in the U7 age group as Maria Batallones also won against her rivals in the girls division. Batallones tallied 72 points to prevail against Manhoben’s Amaya Bollinger (58), Manukai’s Sophie Tarr (52), Tsunami Guam’s Donna Entera (32), Manukai’s Penelope Sablan (13), and Andersen’s Chloe Warren (13), Ava Wyrick (12), and Sophia Lucero (11).
Two more Tsunami Saipan members clinched top honors in their respective divisions with Jun Tenorio ruling the boys 11 to 12 and Aika Watanabe winning in the girls 13 to 14. Watanabe gained 68 points to share first place with Tsunami Guam’s Roxanne Mikel, while Tenorio had 72 points for a close win over SSC’s Jinnosuke Suzuki (68) and Aleksenko (58).
