The Tan Siu Lin Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to Commonwealth Cancer Association and its programs after agreeing to be a star sponsor of the 2019 Marianas March Against Cancer.

The TSL Foundation, the community outreach arm of TanHoldings Corp., donated $16,000 to CCA for next week’s MMAC.

TanHoldings Corp. chief executive officer Jerry Tan, along with foundation officials, handed over the donation to CCA executive director Juan L. Babauta, board president Bo Palacios, and other officers of the non-profit group last April 3.

“The support and commitment of the Tan Siu Lin Foundation and TanHoldings and its affiliates to the CCA in the past several years has been phenomenal. It’s just amazing that we consistently get help from generous companies like TanHoldings,” Babauta said.

“CCA is able to serve its clients because of the companies that support our programs. The more assistance we could get from the community, the more people we could help,” he added.

A company or organization that gives more than $10,000 worth of cash or in-kind items to the CCA is considered a star sponsor of the Marianas March Against Cancer.

This year’s MMAC will be held on May 3 and 4 at the Commonwealth Ports Authority field.

During the MMAC Week proclamation signing last Tuesday, CCA reported a 23-percent increase in the number of its clients between 2017 and 2018.,

Since 2004, CCA has been proving support to cancer patients, survivors, and their families. The group conducts public education and awareness programs and assists patients in early detection and cancer screenings. CCA also provides financial assistance that patients can use for supplements, diapers, bedpads, prosthetic devices, and wound care supplies.

“We remain committed to our clients because we continue to get help from the business community and other kind groups. Words are not enough to express how grateful we are to all our sponsors. To the TSL Foundation, TanHoldings, and the Tan family, thank you very much,” Babauta said.

TanHoldings has been a supporter of CCA for nearly a decade and has hosted events/fundraisers for MMAC. One of them is an annual fun run held in memory of John Pangelinan, a TanHoldings executive who passed away in 2008 due to cancer. Other TanHoldings affiliates also hold fundraisers and team up with schools/organizations with majority of the proceeds from their events donated to CCA.

“TanHoldings and the Tan Siu Lin Foundation stand with our community and CCA in the fight against cancer. CCA has been doing a great job in reaching out to cancer patients/survivors and their families to make them feel that they are not alone in this battle,” Tan said.

“In supporting MMAC, we are honoring the memories of those who bravely fought against cancer. As for the cancer patients/survivors and their families and support groups, we admire you for having resolute strength and courage to keep going and for standing behind your loved ones despite the challenges you are all going through,” he added.

Tan is also rallying the community to get involved in cancer education and awareness programs to know and practice ways to reduce the risk of cancer and other diseases.
“Let us strive for a healthier Marianas,” he said. (PR)
