As a salute to the military’s contributions to the region, the Tan Siu Lin Foundation donated $1,000 to the 3rd Marine Division Association in Guam on Monday.
Marine Corps Activity Guam officer-in-charge Col. P. J. Zimmerman, who just happened to be visiting Saipan early this week, received the donation.
“It’s a pleasure to get the donation so I can present it to the 3rd Marine Division Association in Guam. They do great things for deployed Marines who come in. They teach them about the history of the region and throw barbecues for them. So I’m sure they’re going to put the money into good use,” said Zimmerman after accepting the donation on behalf of the group at the ground floor of the JP Center Building in Garapan.
The 3rd Marine Division Association in Guam is a support group for Marines as well as veterans of the Marine Corps who live in Guam.
Tan Holdings president Jerry Tan said the donation is just a small token when one considers the military’s big role in the region and how military personnel always put their lives in harm’s way.
“The military plays an important role in our region, including the Commonwealth. So we’re just happy and very grateful for everything they do everyday to fight for our freedom. This is only a small way of supporting their special activities,” he said.
TSL Foundation manager Maggie Sablan said the $1,000 donation to the 3rd Marine Division Association in Guam marks the first time in her tenure that the foundation extended a donation to the military.
“Other than the Operation CNMI Homefront Support Program and the care packages, this is the first time we are donating to a military group. But we are very happy to take part in the support group’s fundraising project to provide toys for Toys-for-Tots. The foundation recognizes the importance of community development and health and human services, as such, this type of donation, regardless of it being our own local community or the military, it is always the foundation’s pleasure to bring joy and good tidings to children and families.”
The TSL Foundation, the charitable arm of Tan Holdings Corp., stretches over the Micronesian region with six fields of interest that reflect hundreds of donations every year. These include education, sports, community development, health and human services, environment, and arts and culture. With these fields, Sablan said the foundation supports countless activities, events, groups of people, organizations, etc. throughout the year.
